It will be introduced on farms which were already producing milk on machines but are currently using an old-school technique known as “barrow management”, which involves removing equipment which makes milk production inefficient but is more economically efficient and less labor intensive than “machine management”, the authors say.

The robot could be used to improve efficiency and reduce costs, or could be part of a traditional farm operation.

“The concept can be used to reduce costs, to help manage the production cycle and to eliminate wastage associated with using a single cow in an animal processing operation,” the authors wrote in the research paper, “so that a single cow with the best quality can generate approximately $100 per day.”
