SOUTH BEND – A new hospital will open in the South Bend area with four beds and two of which will be reserved for patients with serious trauma, according to the city’s Health Department.

The South Bend Area Health District and the South Bend Fire Department approved the grant in a meeting Wednesday afternoon.

The $3.5 million facility at 2165 South Broadway will be built on the site of a former industrial site. The health district wants to build two more operating hospitals in South Bend, as well as several more ambulatory medical units.
